Mott's Creek / Foster's Brook

Foster's Brook

Mott's Creek is also known as Foster's Brook. It begins south of Hempstead Turnpike, and runs south along the west side of North High School, through residential communities and North Woodmere Park Golf Course. It empties into Jamacia Bay alongside the mouth of Hook Creek.

The brook is named after Abraham S. Foster, a farmer in Gibson. Interestingly, there was an oil mill located on, or very close to his property. His son was J. Mansfield Foster ("Doc Foster"), Valley Stream's first physician. Ironically, Doc Foster, died suddenly of a heart attack in 1943, alongside the brook that bears his family's name.
