Downtown Revitalization Initiative

The Village of Valley Stream is applying for up to $10 million in state funding through New York’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) Round 9. We have to be in to win it, and we want to hear from YOU! Please share any transformational opportunities, big or small, that can help shape the future of our downtown. Please email ced@vsvny.org with any big or small ideas for transformational opportunities.

View Valley Stream's Round 8 (2024) Application here. A brief introduction to some of the proposed projects from last year's application are below:

 

  • Business Improvement & Attraction Program - Incentivize renovations of the interior and/or exterior of businesses and supplement the investment of new businesses into the downtown.
  • Rockaway Ave Placemaking - Utilizing planters, paint, and pedestrian infrastructure, such as well-designed seating and lighting, the Village can create public space where patrons of food establishments and employees of local offices can enjoy. 
  • Downtown Catalysts - Support the transition of underutilized or vacant buildings into new mixed-use buildings.
  • Theater and Art Space -  Invest in outdoor public art to create an “art-in-the-park” environment at the Village Green, purchase of professional performance lighting improvements at the band shell, and a conversion of the Village auditorium space into a theater, the Valley Stream Cultural Arts Center.
